Diene Ferguson Cancer

How This Woman Beat Cancer Taking Turmeric

It might seem an unlikely story, but turmeric helped Dieneke Ferguson to beat cancer. Doctors diagnosed the 67 year old British lady with myeloma back in 2007, which is a type of blood cancer. This is a remarkable story of how one woman defied the medical odds and the doctors’ dim outlook on her health. And it goes to show that natural plant extracts can really make a difference to your health. Even in extreme circumstances like cancer, although there’s often no clinical studies to back it up.

Regardless, Dieneke Ferguson’s story made it into the British Medical Journal. In the BMJ, there is a one-off case report explaining how a patient used a natural ingredient to prevent cancer growth, and improve outlook and prognosis.

Before turning to something natural like turmeric, Dieneke underwent three rounds of chemotherapy alongside four stem cell transplants, all of which were unsuccessful. After five years of trying the traditional methods of cancer treatment, Dieneke was fed up with the ongoing negative side effects of the toxic anti-cancer drugs that she was taking as part of her treatment,. She felt like she was losing her battle.

At one point, Dieneke lost her memory for three days and one of her vertebrae collapsed, causing her to lose the ability to walk. Luckily, she was able to receive spinal injections for this to help stabilise the collapsed vertebrae but this didn’t help to resolve her cancer.

The Miraculous Discovery Dieneke Made About Turmeric

Dieneke felt like she was losing her battle and worried that she was running out of options. She didn’t know what else she could do. That was until she began searching for alternative ways to overcome her cancer. She wanted something that wasn’t an expensive, synthetic drug. But, instead, she was looking for something that was natural and gentle.

Eventually, Dieneke stumbled on a natural remedy that most of you probably have in your kitchen cupboards. A bright yellow spice that you might stir into your curries, or sprinkle into cheese or butter.

What was this natural remedy? Turmeric powder!

What is Turmeric and Curcumin?

You might be wondering ‘what is turmeric and why is it so special?’ Why did it help Dieneke overcome her blood cancer? Turmeric extract is a spice that we source from the Curcuma longa plant. For thousands of years various cultures relied on turmeric for its medicinal and culinary benefits. The health benefits of turmeric are well understood and widely respected.

However, the many studies on turmeric in the past have not tested whether it could be a cure for cancer. So we cannot of course suggest that turmeric can do this as there is no scientific proof. However, Dieneke’s story clearly shows us there is some exciting potential here.

So, what is it about turmeric from a health perspective that is so interesting? Turmeric contains a series of active plant compounds called curcuminoids, one of which is curcumin. Doctors think that it is the curcumin that was so effective in helping Dieneke with her cancer.

How Much Turmeric Did Dieneke Take Each Day?

Experts have taken a look at Dieneke’s story and cannot see any other identifiable reason for her miraculous recovery other than her curcumin intake. Each day, she took the best turmeric supplement in the UK to obtain 8 grams of curcumin in tablet form. Note that this is an extremely high dose! It would be the equivalent of taking 20 capsules a day of the Solgar Turmeric Root Extract.

It was necessary for Dieneke to take supplements as it would be almost impossible to achieve 8 grams of curcumin by adding turmeric to the diet. Traditional kitchen turmeric contains just 2% curcumin.

Sadly, there are around 5,500 diagnoses of myeloma every year in the UK. This type of blood cancer causes the bone marrow’s white blood cell production to proliferate uncontrollably. This overgrowth of cells causes bone damage, nerve damage, pain, and fatigue.

Most people who are diagnosed with myeloma do not live more than five years after diagnosis. However, Dieneke defied the odds and was able to extend her life by taking regular turmeric supplements.

Turmeric And Cancer

People use turmeric all across the world but, at present, the science community does not recognise it as a treatment for cancer. Despite Dieneke’s amazing recovery, doctors are unable to recommend it to every patient due to the lack of scientific research around it. And take note that the dose she was taking is quite impractical for most. Taking 20 capsules a day of one supplement might give anyone pill fatigue!

It’s important to know that before a cancer treatment is official and approved, it must undergo several long-term clinical trials that cost a lot of money and take years to complete.

Why Take Curcumin Supplements?

Despite the lack of scientific reseach at present, there are many reasons to take turmeric supplements or add it into your diet. Turmeric and its active component, curcumin offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, and this can have many positive health benefits across the body. This is because inflammation so often is at the core of a health concern.

Turmeric supplements in the UK may be used to treat other conditions, such as arthritis, digestive disturbances, and skin conditions due to these benefits. However, most of the evidence in favour of curcumin for disease treatment is anecdotal, not scientifically based.

Experts suggest that the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric may be responsible for its anti-cancer properties. It is thought that chronic inflammation is a precursor to all cancers. So, tackling this by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory markers in the body may help to lower the risk of cancer.

Curcumin worked for Dieneke but it may not work for others. It’s important to realise that the benefits are hit and miss, and Dieneke’s case may just be a one-off. Every cancer manifests differently and everybody will respond differently to various anti-cancer treatments.

However, here is no harm in trying curcumin as part of a well-rounded treatment plan for cancer. It has very few, if any, side effects when taken in safe dosages, but may provide some anti-cancer benefits.

What Turmeric Supplements You Can Take

Dieneke used an expensive turmeric supplement that contained three forms of curcumin molecules. But it’s not always necessary to spend a fortune on supplements when you want to reap the benefits of tumeric.

If you’re looking for the best turmeric supplement in the UK that won’t break the bank, the range below at GreenBox will provide you with all of the amazing health benefits of curcumin.

To boost the absorption of curcumin in your gut, take your turmeric supplements with black pepper extract or a high-fat meal. Both black pepper oil and healthy fats have been shown to increase the bioavailability of curcumin, meaning more of it can be absorbed into your bloodstream and less of it gets excreted when you go to the toilet!
